Step 1: Gather 3-5 writing samples
Find text you're proud of. Create one tone-of-voice profile per use case (LinkedIn posts, emails, blog posts). Have them ready.
Step 2: Run the analysis prompt
Copy the prompt below, open ChatGPT, and paste it. Replace everything inside double round brackets ((like this)). Keep everything in single brackets [like this].
The prompt
Analyze the following 3-5 writing samples and create a comprehensive tone of voice profile that captures the author's distinctive style. For email threads, only use text written by "((Paste your name))". This profile will be used to guide future writing for ((Add use case, like LinkedIn posts)).
## Writing Samples:
((Paste Example 1))
((Paste Example 2))
((Paste Example 3))
((Paste Example 4))
((Paste Example 5))
## Analysis Framework:
Based on these samples, identify and document:
1. **Sentence Structure & Rhythm**
- Average sentence length and variation patterns
- Use of fragments, questions, or declarative statements
- Punctuation habits (em dashes, semicolons, ellipses, etc.)
- Paragraph length preferences
2. **Voice & Perspective**
- First person, second person, third person usage
- Level of directness (blunt, diplomatic, conversational)
- Relationship with reader (authoritative, peer-to-peer, mentoring)
3. **Word Choice & Language**
- Vocabulary level (simple, sophisticated, technical)
- Industry jargon vs. accessible language
- Metaphors, analogies, or storytelling devices
- Recurring phrases or linguistic signatures
4. **Tone & Emotion**
- Overall mood (optimistic, pragmatic, provocative, humorous)
- Emotional range and intensity
- Use of humor, sarcasm, or wit
- Level of vulnerability or personal disclosure
5. **Content Patterns**
- How ideas are introduced and developed
- Use of examples, data, or anecdotes
- Opening and closing strategies
- Transitions between thoughts
6. **Unique Characteristics**
- Any distinctive quirks or stylistic signatures
- What makes this voice immediately recognizable
- What this voice never does
## Output Format:
Create a concise tone of voice profile (200-300 words) written in second person that can be inserted into a system prompt. Don't add any title, begin with: "If you are asked to write ((use case)): Write in a voice that ..." and provide clear, actionable guidance that works for this use case.
End with 3-5 "Never" statements (things this voice avoids).
---
## Example Output:
If you are asked to write for ((use case)): Write in a voice that [describes core characteristics]. Your sentences [rhythm and structure]. You speak to readers as [relationship dynamic], using [vocabulary level and type].
[Additional specific guidance about storytelling, emotional tone, content development]
Never:
- [Avoid X]
- [Avoid Y]
- [Avoid Z]
---
Now return the tone of voice profile only, without any other text.
Step 3: Copy the output
ChatGPT will analyze your style. Sentence structure. Word patterns. Tone. All of it. Copy the entire response.
Step 4: Add it to Custom Instructions
Click your profile in ChatGPT (bottom left) → Settings → Personalization → Custom Instructions → paste what you just copied and save.
Step 5: Test it
Start a new chat. Ask ChatGPT to write something. Compare it to your usual AI output. It should sound noticeably more like you. Less generic. Less "AI wrote this."
Your ChatGPT now writes like you.
If you prefer an easier way with stable results, Mono has natively integrated tone-of-voice analysis and lets you write not only with GPT, but with Claude, Gemini, and any other major model.
